Fish Mouth

Collected by David Nicolai from his Yup'ik Eskimo grandmother, who lives in a small village near Bethel in southwest Alaska. "Fish Mouth" is preceded by a design that represents the two eyes of a fish.

Step 6 - 2 and 3, from the far side, enter the nearest "eye" and move toward the center, catching on their backs the double vertical strings.

L23, from the far side, removes the double R23 loop; R23, from the far side, removes the double L23 loop.

2 and 3 pass up behind all intervening strings, then trap 1n (a transverse string) between them.

2, with the help of 3, hooks up 1n, drawing it through the double 23 loop, which slips off as 2 and 3 rotate away and up.

Release 1 loop, extend, and arrange as needed to reveal a quadruple-walled triangle that represents a "Fish Mouth".
