Sacred Circle

A contemporary string figure created by a Native American faithkeeper. Sacred Circles, Mandalas, Medicine Wheels: all are symbols of wholeness and the infinite. To Native Americans, a Sacred Circle represents the togetherness of people who sit around a campfire. It symbolizes the sun, the moon, and the paths they travel in the sky. It reminds us that the seasons and life itself are never ending cycles.

Step 2 - In this step each finger rotates a full turn to introduce a twist into its loop. For fingers 2, 3, 4, and 5, this is easier to do if you first move the loop closer to the finger's tip, and during the rotation use 1 to temporarily pick up the far string of the loop (under the near string) so that the loop doesn't slip off the finger.

Rotate 1 a full turn toward you.

Rotate 2 a full turn away from you.

Rotate 3 a full turn away from you.

Rotate 4 a full turn away from you.

Rotate 5 a full turn away from you.

See-saw hands to evenly distribute the string.
