1, 2, and 3-step Ladders

A contemporary string figure series created by Kyoko Ando of Utsunomiya, Japan. In Japan and elsewhere, diamond string figures often represent ladders. A good example is the 4-diamond figure known as "Jacob's Ladder" in America.

Step 3 - 1, over intervening strings, picks up 5f and returns.

R1 and R2 grasp the segment of L3n that lies between L3 and the L palmar string; after drawing it towards you over L1, R1 and R2 release the string they are holding on the near side of L1 to create an upper L1 loop.

Likewise, L1 and L2 grasp the segment of R3n that lies between R3 and the R palmar string; after drawing it towards you over R1, L1 and L2 release the string they are holding on the near side of R1 to create an upper R1 loop.
