Launching a Rocket
A contemporary action string figure created by Tama Saito of Saitama, Japan. Ms. Saito created the figure by further manipulating a traditional Japanese string figure called Hanakago ("A Flower Basket").

Step 8 - With the help of the L hand, Navajo the loops on R1 and on R2 (with L1 and L2 grasp and remove the loop shared by R1 and R2, releasing it on the palmar side of the R hand). Alternatively, use the technique described in Step 7 to Navajo the R hand loops.
To launch the rocket, separate the hands: a triangle will slide upward toward the L hand. As the "rocket" approaches the L hand, release the L1 loop: the triangle will collapse to form a small knot which represents the rocket vanishing from sight as it enters orbit. |
