Snowshoe Hare

Collected by Frederick W. Waugh from the Innu (Montagnais-Naskapi) people of Québec, Canada. The Snowshoe Hare (Lepus americanus) inhabits the subarctic forests in which the Innu hunt. It is brown in the summer, but white in the winter. The animal's large hind feet prevent it from sinking in the snow when it hops.

Step 2 - Pass R1 and R2 away from you through the short hanging loop; pass R1 to the left of proximal L1f and R2 to the right of distal L1f, then touch their tips together behind these two strings.

Next, pass the tips of R1 and R2 toward you between these two strings and separate R1 from R2; as a result, R1 picks up proximal L1f and R2 picks up distal L1f.

Draw these two strings through the short hanging loop until medium-length loops form on R1 and R2, then with R345 grasp both strands of the long hanging loop and close these fingers to the R palm.
