A Female Eel
Collected by Richard Harbison and Russell Reichelt from the people of the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea. This string figure most likely represents the Highlands Long-finned Eel (Anguilla interioris). Freshwater eels inhabit rivers but return to the ocean to spawn.

Step 2 - 1 presses down 2n; 2 hooks up 1n and draws it through the original 2 loop, which slips off as 2 rotates away and up.
1, still pressing down 2n (and 1f), passes under intermediate strings, picks up 5f and draws it through the double loop on 1, which slips off as 1 returns to an upright position. |
