Earrings
Collected by George Byron Gordon from the Yup'ik people of Mamtrelich, a small village near the mouth of the Kuskokwim River in southwest Alaska. Eskimo (Inuit) women traditionally wore dangling earrings that were made of carved bone or ivory.

Step 5 - 2 and 3, from the distal or "fingertip" side, pass through the upper pair of loops on 1, then 2 and 3 trap lower 1n (a transverse string) between their tips; 2 and 3 draw the trapped string through the upper loops on 1, then rotate away and up so that the trapped string forms a loop on 2.
Release all loops on 1 and extend. Use 1 to tease apart the central tangle. |
